Introductions / Welcome

Updates from Principal G

1. They are coming tomorrow to start the ventilation flush process. We found out that we were marked off on the checklist because the initial check had been done (not because it passed). They will reassess after the flush.

2. Racial justice team completed its institute. Team will run a PD on Friday for all staff. What opportunity to families have to be a part of these conversations?

3. No other significant updates since last night’s pre-K to 2 town hall

Fundraising project updates

Summer Covid food fund updates - plans to spend out the remaining balance

1. 11 final gift cards to be delivered to Hollenbach this week.

2. Used up full amount (spent $16.77 of additional funds)

Early Fall Supply drive - updates on recent headphone purchases

1. $1387.68 spent on headphones for 47 families (82 kids)

   1. Ms. Lynch has gotten some headphones so if we get new requests, we can refer them to the school directly.

2. $2641.49 remaining

3. Mr. Brown is talking with a car dealership to get a supply of extra chargers.

Potential new projects

1. HSA Dojo account update: No response yet from Mazzeo - Megan (Mr. Gerwer will message him)

2. New fundraiser ideas/needs: Struggling families, hybrid classroom transition, at-home learning supplies -- What is most needed? What can we target?

   1. Using remaining funds from Supply Drive

      1. Teacher requests for ESOL digital learning program (~$1,000)

      2. Hybrid transition: purchasing partitions, back-up masks

   2. The school could probably would be able to pay for i1. and i2. Priority may be the Wallace fundraiser.

3. Scholastic book balance: Purchases needed? Updates on school-wide request system? We should make sure teachers use the request system, and then Gerwer will come to the HSA if they need help purchasing.

4. Fundraiser/Event to honor Walter Wallace, Jr.

   1. Bryan Elementary is right near Mr. Wallace’s block - can we connect with them and support their school? Could we donate to a mental health nonprofit and social justice nonprofit? Local social justice nonprofit would be preferable - let’s all look into these and email around ideas (Maybe ask Gauthier’s office?) Philadelphia Black Giving Circle? Mr. Gerwer will reach out

   2. Covid-friendly Walkathon w/ pledge system - $1 per minute, hashtag system -- Google Form with paypal and Venmo options may be the simplest option

   3. Week of Thanksgiving?

   4. Mr. Gerwer needs to check with his assistant superintendent

5. Book bin system seems to be relatively well-used when people are aware of them. How do we publicize this more widely?

HSA “business” items

1. Election team updates: Nomination has been created. Put out call soon; one week of nominations (end Nov. 6); elections would be closed and posted Nov. 13. All 4 positions are up for nomination and voting

2. 501c3 updates: work is continuing!

3. We don’t need to amend bylaws until the election. We should work on revising these in the meantime

4. Heads up: Joint meeting with SAC to discuss site selection issues and brainstorm responses - who wants in? The letter has already been sent out, so maybe we wait until we hear from Dr. Davis-Bowie.
