Lea HSA General Meeting

March 12, 2025

  1. Welcome and Introductions

    1. Attendees shared their name, role, kid’s age, what brought you to meeting tonight

  2. Officer Reports

    1. President

    2. 2nd Ave Fundraiser 

      1. highest participation in a fundraiser in the last few years! 2400 lbs of goods, so many volunteers to drive and so many people who donated

      2. Joanna was an MVP for collecting goods

      3. Raised $400

    3. School Spirit

      1. Dance and potluck prep

        1. There will be a k-2 dance during the final period of the day, followed by a dance for grades 3-5 beginning at 4pm. 

        2. This will all be followed by a community potluck! 

          1. 11 people so far signed up for a dish and 6 people have signed up for set up/breakdown!

          2. excited to see how this works out, it’s a purely community building event

    4. Fundraising

      1. Lea Madness planning and how we can all pitch in

        1. April 5th in the big school yard 

        2. Plan for LEA March Madness

          1. working with the students to get them excited about forming teams, in school promotion as well

          2. initial outreach to potential sponsors has started, will be soliciting for the next few weeks

    5. Book Fair

      1. Will be held May 7-9 in the auditorium

      2. After Lea Madness we will begin recruiting volunteers 

    6. Middle School

      1. Update on middle school trip and whole school trip needs 

        1. Middle School Gala on March 28th 7pm on the Spirit of Philadelphia

          1. This year the trip has been expanded to the entire middle school

          2. There will be a DJ and food 

          3. chaperones are still needed for this trip!

        2. 8th grade NYC trip-May 21st

          1. Will be going to Brooklyn bridge park and seeing Aladin on Broadway

          2. breakfast on the bus on the way there, dinner at a buffet on the way home

          3. there are several slots for parents to chaperone

  3. Planning update from Principal Snyder

    1. next weeks SAC meeting will include a discussion on the budget

    2. enrollment projection for next year is 503

    3. title 1 dollars have decreased as the % of students who are defined as economically disadvantaged has dropped by 8%

    4. Priorities for next year- #EveryStudentEveryDay

      1. culture of care

      2. learning at every level

      3. exposure and voice: middle school design

  4. Plan for recruiting folks for HSA leadership next year

    1. Perhaps hosting a designated Q & A meeting – light dinner to discuss the highs and lows and answer questions for anyone curious

      1. All exec committee members and anyone who’s been a member of the crew please come and bring at least one friend/recruit

  5. Things to keep in mind/on the radar

    1. Taxes as a 501c3

    2. Teacher Appreciation Week of 5/5

    3. Walking bus

    4. Musical 5/22 + 5/23

    5. 8th Grade graduation gift
