HSA Meeting Minutes 5.14.2025

Lea HSA Monthly Meeting

May 14, 2025

  1. Welcome

    1. This is the last official meeting of the current administration

    2. Introductions: Attendees took turns introducing themselves and sharing what brought them to tonight’s meeting

  2. HSA Elections

    1. Terms are typically 2-year staggered terms for the following positions.

      1. President

      2. Vice President (Tamika Lawson will continue on)

      3. Secretary

      4. Treasurer

    2. We also have several Ad-hoc positions that serve for 1-year terms

    3. Current candidates running

      1. President - Denise Napper

        1. Lea holds a special place for her, she went to Lea as did her parents.

        2. Has a current 7th grader at Lea, as well as two other children not currently at Lea.

        3. Wants to continue partnerships so kids can have a good experience and build strong connections between parents and the school

      2. Ad-Hoc 501(c)(3) compliance - Elizabeth Hein

        1. Is the parent of a current kindergartener. 

        2. Has watched HSA from afar and is excited to have a position where she can lend a hand. 

        3. She is a licensed attorney and can help with compliance for our 501(c)(3) status

      3. Additional Candidates

        1. As you can see there are still a number of open positions. For our 501(c)(3) status we do need to have a certain number of officers so recruitment for the open positions will continue

    4. Elections

      1. Will be held online via form distributed on class dojo after this meeting. Will make a quarter sheet to distribute to parents as well. 

        1. There will be spots for write-in candidates. 

        2. Votes will close on Friday

  3. Officer Reports

    1. President

      1. Wrapping up the year

        1. Staff lounge: Final deep clean and decorate bulletin boards. Will be bringing a few special surprises to leave it in good shape for the end of the year.

          1. open call for mug donations to have in the lounge for teachers to use.

          2. The efforts for the lounge are very appreciated by the teachers.  

        2. 8th grade graduation: We have a ton of leftover supplies from Lea Madness, enough to do an 8th grade picnic at Clark Park, May 27th. 

          1. Volunteers welcome!

        3. Musical: Moana Jr. May 22-23rd

          1. Support through infrastructure, not cash

          2. HSA website is supporting ticket sales platform

          3. Volunteers for the two days of the show

    2. Secretary

      1. Book Fair

        1. Had three fantastic days of the fair May 7-9. We were able to offer all kids a free book!

        2. Thanks to everyone who volunteer for set up/breakdown and helping the students

        3. Special thanks to Kathleen for being the cash register wiz!

        4. Still working through finances as we wait for the final numbers from scholastic

    3. Treasurer

      2. Final allocation of funds to Lea Student Activities Fund

        1. Will be making a $2800 allocation soon

          1. This will support field trips

        1. Book fair gap which covers the free books for each student

    4. School Spirit

      1. Teacher Appreciation week recap

        1. Huge success! We kicked off staff/teacher appreciation with a donut delivery

        2. Each day we did raffle baskets- and gave each teacher 5 tickets to chose which they wanted to enter 

          1. Lea Merch/classroom supplies

          2. Familea Dinner Basket

          3. West Philly Basket

          4. Summer Vacation

          5. Selfcare Sunday

      2. Final teacher appreciation- asking for an in-kind donation for pizza for the last week of school

        1. Will coordinate with admin 

    5. Fundraising

      1. Popcorn Fundraiser

        1. Through Double Good

          1.  A three day fundraiser May 28-30th

        2. Denise is working with staff to create their classroom pages

        3. Classes that sell the most will win prizes

      2. Final fundraising ask

        1. To help us get to our original goal of $20k, we are currently at around $17k raised

          1. Will set up HSA to hit the ground running next year

  4. Additional Business
